PROCLAMATION FOR MEDICARE FOR ALL RESOLUTION
At the request of City Council member Sheneika Smith, Asheville Mayor, Esther Manheimer, signed a “Medicare For All” proclamation in support of a national health insurance system at the city council meeting on Tuesday, August 27. After receiving the proclamation, Dr. Ellen Kaczmarek gave a great acceptance speech in honor of HCFAWNC. The proclamation begins 8:50 minutes into the video.

There was an excellent turn out and lots of good food. Over 30 people stayed for the documentary after eating. They were very appreciative of our bringing this film to them and had good questions afterwards. We are hoping to go back to this venue in the future to show Fix It, or Big Pharma, and possibly invite people outside the church to join us.

HealthCare for All WNC Annual Informational Meeting

There was a great turn out for our general Healthcare For All WNC meeting at the Block Off Biltmore in spite of the difficult parking situation and the frigid weather. It was a great presentation with several members sharing information about each slide. People enjoyed meeting each other, drinking, eating vegan snacks and asking questions afterwards. We were very pleased with the attentiveness of the audience and the comments that were made in response to the presentation. Everyone was appreciative of our efforts to provide this information. We hope to repeat this event later this year. Thanks to all those who braved the cold and came out to learn more about our Healthcare For All WNC mission and why Medicare For All is a wise choice for our country.

Former Ohio State Sen. Nina Turner and Jim Hightower, are coming to Asheville to speak on Medicare-For-All and the Opioid Crisis. The goal is to raise awareness and action about serious issues affecting local Western North Carolinians. We will be encouraging people to go vote early down the street following the event.
